The Girls Get Buzzed! - June, 2011

Here's Thumbelina before and after her cooler summer hairdo:

Looks like Thumbelina needs to lose a few pounds!

Here's Isadora Junebug semi-before (she had a negative mowhawk before Nancee Moster Pontious remembered to take her picture) and after her cooler summer hairdo:

The Pontious Farm Made the Front Page! - June, 2011

Christine Des Garennes, a Champaign News-Gazette reporter and Pontious Farm customer, wrote a wonderful story about the Pontious Farm that captured just perfectly the tone Rick and Nancee Moster Pontious were hoping for.

You can check it out at http://www.news-gazette.com/news/agriculture/2011-06-25/berry-farm-close-after-40-years-operation.html

Imagine Rick's and Nancee's shock when the story appeared on the front page of the paper!

2200 web site hits within 24 hours! So many people came out the opening day of what will be the farm's last season that the farm ran out of ripe blueberries by early afternoon.

But don't worry. The sun finally came out after days of rain and cold, so there are more blueberries ripening as we speak.

It Was a Difficult Decision - June, 2011

The Pontious Farm u-pik business will close at the end of the 2011 season.

The demands of Rick and Nancee Moster Pontious's off-the-farm jobs and their age make it too difficult to maintain the farm in the manner you have come to expect.

They - and the entire Pontious family - appreciate your support for the last 43 years.

Many, many thanks..

Sweet Dreams, Pixie - June, 2011

There are no words right now. Maybe later after the tears stop. If they ever stop.

Much, much love...

We love you, Pixie

Meet Bruiser - June, 2011

Meet the newest rescue dog at the Pontious Farm menagerie: Bruiser. A big, approximately eight-year-old, white lab, Bruiser is a happy-go-lucky guy who doesn't know his own strength. Ergo, the name.

Rick's Pond/Lake - Take Your Pick - April, 2011

Sammy loves it. What with all the rain in central Illinois over the last two weeks, it's now deep enough for her to swim. Rick Pontious throws a tennis ball and she dives in right after it! (You did know Sammy is a dog -- right?)

Rick is planning a dock, sand beach, fish, and most important, a fence.

A Bona Fide Vacation! - March, 2011

A bona fide vacation is one that involves no family and no business. The last bona fide vacation Rick and Nancee Moster Pontious took (by her reckoning) was at the end of 2001! Ten years -- this is not a good track record!

Nancee and Rick joined Rick Paulson from Hillsboro, OR and Dave Callaway from near Rochester, NY for a trip to Zion National Park and Bryce Canyon National Park in southern Utah.

Rick Paulson took a boatload of pictures you can see at http://www.rickpaulson.com/travel/utah-nevada/home.html. Below are just a few of the hundreds of pictures Rick and Nancee took.

Day 1: Zion National Park. The weather was iffy in the morning but beautiful in the afternoon.

Day 2: Bryce Canyon National Park. Rick kept trying to start avalanches with snowballs.

Day 2/Bryce Canyon: Nancee Day 2/Bryce Canyon: Rick

Day 3: Back to Zion National Park. The common denominator in our merry little band was Rick Paulson, who:

  • Worked with Dave at Intel before Dave moved to New York to be closer to his grandchildren.
  • Was Nancee's go-to guy at Intel before he had the audacity to retire!

Both Rick Paulson and Dave arrived with $2000 cameras. Nancee's Sony Cybershot had a definite inferiority complex. All Nancee's pictures of Dave show him taking pictures!

Day 4: Las Vegas and outskirts. Even though she is terrified of heights, Nancee was determined to walk the new O'Callaghan-Tillman Memorial bridge overlooking Hoover Dam. Rick Paulson gallantly held her hand most of the way. See how low the water is on Lake Mead?

Nancee refused to leave Las Vegas without visiting her beloved flamingos at the Flamingo Hotel (where she used to stay when she consulted for Levi-Strauss).

Nancee did not pack the proper clothing for the unseasonably warm weather in Vegas, so she bought - and changed into! - something cooler on the strip. Picture courtesy of Rick Paulson.

Dave took this shot for Nancee at her request. Nancee hopes to enlarge, frame, and display it at the farm.

Say Hello to Lucky - January, 2011

Lucky, an elderly gentleman who was obviously abused in a past life, is the latest canine addition to the Pontious Farm menagerie. Rick and Nancee Moster Pontious are working on changing his opinion of the human race.

Lucky is a sweet old man, but has some trust issues.
